What are the best places to go surfing for a beginner surfer?

Planning a surfing trip for the summer and i just cant decide where to go...can you please tell me some great spots to go surfing? In U.S and Outside.Thanks

We have a nice sand-bar and the water's not too cold most of the year. It's also not too crowded most of the time. You can catch waves in about chest deep water and catch a short ride. Perfect for beginners. Once you get your feet wet, then head West- big crowds and agressive locals are not good for the newbies. Get a longboard or a funshape. 6'6" - 10', swallow or snubtail. If you go longboard be sure it's got a large fin or a trifin design with the center fin larger, if you go funshape, get a trifin design, and don't worry about R-5 boards. Spend the money, go shopping buy yourself a board, and a good salesperson can fit you to your board. Buy it locally too. Local shapers know the breaks better.

After that outside of the US? Costa Rica- we went there on our honeymoon. wonderful little 4' waves waaaay outside for a nice long ride, also a sandy bottom.
