It's free and will get you in a pool with basic instruction and supervision for an hour. If you like it, take it from there. There are some costs that cant be cut, such as your Water Bill, Chemical costs Cleaning your pool shouldnt be too hard at all. IF you are adding a heater, then you are going to have the costs associated with using that piece of equipment, if its an electric heat pump, your going to use a good amount of Electrical, if its Propane or Natural Gas, you are naturally going to be using alot of that gas. Warmer water also means more chemicals, since warmer water requires more chlorine to keep it clean and clear. Warmer water also means you are going to be filling your pool more often. If you live in an area that gets down into the 40's or 50's and your heated pool water is 78 or 80 degrees, you will be losing alot of water to evaporation. It would not be uncommon for you to come out in the morning, and see that your pool water has lowered itself by a half inch or inch. It's not a leak, its just evaporation.

IF you keep your water balanced, and have your equipment running properly, you shouldnt have any mosquitos. Mosquitos like standing stagnant water, such as thatof a bird bath. Generally if you have a swimming pool, and people swimming in it, and with the chemicals, it is not their ideal place to go hang out and lay their eggs. However, if you let it sit for a week or 2 weeks and dont run your motor, let it turn green with algae, then it will be a perfect breeding ground for the mosquitos.

As for cleanign the pools. I used to service 12-15 swimming pools a day sometimes over a 50-60 mil stretch from start to finish in the day. So figuring in 2 hours of travel time at a minimum, it left my partner and I about 8-10 hours to complete the cleaning, and balancing of these pools in a day. So to vac out your pool, add chemicals, and test your water, it shouldnt take you more than 45 minutes to an hour once you get the hang of what you are doing.

As for cleaning pools and using a company, check with your local companies, most companies offer a service called Weekly service . They will come and clean the pool, check equipment and add the necessary chemicals for your pool. Prices will vary by company, but you are probably going to pay 45-50 dollars minimum for this type of service..

James Island is a popular spot for many when making a condominium or townhouse purchase. With so many communities to choose from, it can be difficult making a decision on which might be the best fit for you. With James Island, it's all about location. With close proximity to downtown Charleston, and being right down the street from Folly Beach, it is a favorite location for many. A lot of the CofC students (College of Charleston) and the MUSC students (Medical University of South Carolina) like the location of James Island, since the commute is normally 10 minutes or less. So lets take a look at a few of the differences between condominiums and townhouses, and try to determine what might be the best fit for you.

First of all, whether you're choosing a townhouse or a condo depends on your lifestyle. If you are looking for the "resort lifestyle" so to speak, then condos might be the best fit for you. The reason I say this is because swimming pools, cabanas, tennis courts, gated communities, and lawn care included are all typical benefits of living in a condo. If you're the type of person that has a long day at school or work, and doesn't want to spend a lot of time on maintenance or landscaping, then a condo may be a great choice for you. Be sure to know that when living in a condominium, you actually own a percentage of the whole condominium community. If there are 100 condos, and you own one, you own 1% of the community. There are covenants and restrictions set in place (rules or guidelines), that you must obey and are enforced. Typically, there are regime fees paid by the condo owners (you) that can amount to $350+ a month! These are the fees that pay for the use of the cabana, the pool, tennis courts, landscaping and maintenance, and any entry gate. Also included is hazard insurance for the exterior of the condo (normally from the drywall, out), exterior maintenance such as pressure washing, roof repair, siding repair, as well as the sidewalks and walkways around your condo. Some condo communities also have water usage included. So condominiums will be more expensive to live in per month, on a whole, but this may be beneficial for you if you like all of those extras listed above.

Townhouses or townhomes are a little different. While sometimes similar in size and appearance to condos, townhouses do not have regime fees. You actually own the townhouse outright, and you are not a part of any regime. Typically, there aren't any swimming pools, tennis courts, cabanas, or lawn service. This means you take care of your own exterior hazard insurance, your own water, and if the roof needs repair- that is your responsibility. You maintain the area around your townhouse, which means all of the landscaping on your property, and any gardening you wish to do. There are no covenants and restrictions so normally you are also able to park your boat on the property, or do any modifications/changes to your townhouse without having to submit a written request asking permission to do so. A lot of people like this freedom, and feel they shouldn't have to ask for permission to make changes to something they own (like paining). However; the condominium people feel that this may affect the property values negatively if there are changes made that are not in the best interest of the community. Take note that if there is no regime with covenants and restrictions, any homeowner may be a little more careless about having cars parked in yards, or stained driveways, or boats parked on the grass on cinder blocks (you get my point). There is no property management company to enforce the rules of the community as in a condo regime. The biggest positive I see the townhouse having vs. the condo is there are no regime fee's to pay per month. If a similar condo of the same size has a $350 a month regime fee, then you may be able to afford a more attractive townhome since you will not be paying any regime fee's per month. Also note that when there is a down real estate market or economy- the townhomes usually sell better than condos. For example: One townhome selling at 100K, and one condo selling at 100K with a monthly $250 regime fee. That $250 a month regime fee is tough to chew on for someone qualifying for a 100K place to live.

So there you have it, a minor breakdown of the differences between condos and townhomes. Like I mentioned, the choice is yours depending on your lifestyle. Be sure to take note of location obviously when choosing, but also find out if a condominium community is in litigation. On James Island alone, there are a few communities that are under litigation (a lawsuit), where the owners have sued for a specific reason. Normally, the lawsuit is for defective workmanship of the condo buildings, or something similar. VERY IMPORTANT: Which means if you are a seller...drum roll please...you have to sell your condo as cash only. A buyer will not be able to purchase a condo when it is under litigation, because the banks will not fund a loan when in this situation. So be careful when choosing!

Do you know how to streamline? Streamline means you are squeezing your head with your biceps behind your ears ... chin on chest ... hips and knees locked and toes pointed.

Be certain to get a thorough warm up (1000 to 1500 yds/m) before your race. End your warm up as close to your race as possible (within 5 minutes). You want your heart beating and breathing rate faster than resting as, within a few seconds, you're NOT going to be resting, you're going to be racing.

After the call to your marks, step forward placing one foot forward and one foot back with 99% of your weight on your forward food (DO NOT LEAN BACK!!!!). Grasp the front edge of the starting block. Chin tucked in and touching your chest.

When the starting signal is given, yank on the front of the starting block which pulls you forward. After you've started to move forward, look forward at the pool and push with your feet. Just after you leave the blocks, put your head back into streamline position. Bend slightly at your hips.

You'll then start to aim and go down at the water. As you get to the water, imagine your hands punching a hole in the water and then have the rest of your body enter the water through that hole ... so, hands, head, shoulders, hips and feet enter the water through the hole.

After your feet enter the water, go to streamline position as quickly as possible. STAY in streamline and, when you feel yourself SLOWING DOWN TO RACE SPEED (race speed is slower than your starting speed or turning speed) do 6 to 8 hard and FAST dolphin kicks ... STAY IN STREAMLINE!

Continue to kick to get to the surface while staying in streamline (DO NOT LOOK FORWARD OR LIFT YOUR HEAD TO GET TO THE SURFACE) ... kick to the surface. Start your first stroke a little before you get to the surface (called your breakout). Take, in races greater than 50yds/m, one stroke with each arm and begin to breathe immediately. DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH at the beginning of your race.

Why not hold your breath (this is extra to your question)? It takes about 30 to 40 seconds for the air you breathe in right now to reach your muscles. So, if you DON'T breathe immediately, somewhere around 50 or 60 yards into your race, you will not have oxygen enriched blood coming to your muscles and the rest of your race you'll continue to slow down.

When fishing for tuna, troll at speeds of 5 to 8 miles per hour. Most professionals like to use a typical 'W Pattern' while trolling. This pattern consists of 2 long lines held out on each outrigger, 2 shorter lines held out flat and four deep lines straight down the middle. Additionally, it is helpful to display a flashy presentation of multiple lures. The more they splash, sparkle and shine the better. What you want is to trick the tuna in to thinking that it's stumbled across a panicked school of bait fish.

In Windhoek, we arrived at the airport and took our red Toyota Condor, which we have booked already from home. On the ride into the city, we were welcomed by a monkey. This was a real "African feeling".

The city of Windhoek can be easily explored by foot and anywhere beautiful wood carvings can be admired. On a little farm outside we have the first contact with wild animals; we visited there a cheetah feeding. From Windhoek we travel with our red cars to Keetmanshoop. The ride takes only about a tarmac before it on the Namibian slope continues. We walk in the afternoon in the canyon and visit this from a vantage point overlooking the canyon. The nature there is simply terrific! We stayed in a hut in the Canyon Roadhouse, where we had a very tasty dinner. The sunsets in Africa are just incredibly beautiful to me because it is completely different than at home.
The next day we visit the thermal baths of Ai-Ais. We also take a guided tour on a rock in the Canyon Lodge, where we once again saw a beautiful sunset.

From the Fish River Canyon we took the road direction Lüderitz. We were freezing, especially at night because even in Africa, it's really cold. The ride takes you through an unreal looking, barren and sandy landscape. Sometimes the road is full of sand from the wind. And even in Lüderitz, there are no paved roads.

Just outside the town of Lüderitz is the former German city Kolmannskoppe, were diamonds were prospected. We took a tour and learned about the time when Germany occupied Namibia as a colony. From there, the next objective was the farm Namib.

We drove through the loneliness of the Naukluft Mountains and as we reach the ranch, the family was already waiting on the terrace. This seclusion in the magnificent scenery, but also the silence can be thought of as Europeans hardly imagine you must have experienced, in order to understand it. We climbed in the rocks and see the spit bucks, Springbok and other antelope species.

The next morning we went into desert and the castle Buwisib. From here you can enjoy from the terrace a grand view of the African steppe. The next day we departed before sunrise to complete this experience in Sossusvlei. We climbed the dunes and made a detour in the Sesrim Canyon. In the German town of Swakopmund, where we stayed for two days and got even German cheesecake in the bakery, so yummy!  

On the salt road t we head direction Cape Cross to a seal colony. Here we have to watch how the jackals hunt down small and sick seals. From here you can see the Spitzkoppe, the Matterhorn of Namibia. The path leads through humble dwellings, where children at the roadside stand and sell stones. We gave them fruits and chocolate. From there we took a walk to Philips height. Our next stop is the Bambatsi Holiday Ranch, from which we have a guided hike. From a hill many animals can be observed living there – like wild giraffes, the first we saw during our trip. In the evening there is a very tasty and good BBQ at the ranch.

The next morning we drove to the Etosha National Park, located just outside our accommodation. The National Park is fantastic, we see elephants, rhinos, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, and even a (lazy) lion.

This trip was really very impressive! Now are our last days and we recovered ourselves by the pool under the African sun.

The people there are very friendly and open-minded. Also the German language is spoken nearly everywhere. We will also never forget the beautiful sunsets in Namibia.

There are no fast inflatables. Most have wide, flat bottoms, which are not good for going fast. You could look at a folding kayak such as a Klepper. Kayaking is becoming one of the fastest growing activities in the US, with almost eight million people. Its increasing popularity is not surprising considering how easy it is to learn, surprisingly affordable and it is a great activity to enjoy with the whole family. Kayaking has simply become the next big thing in exercise, helping people develop cardio endurance, total body strength, flexibility and balance all at the same time.

It is so fun and addictive that many people probably don't even realize that they're working out at the same time. Kayak Frames

There are technically two types of kayak frames, sit-on-top and sit-in. The first type, the sit-on-top frame, the paddler sits in a recessed seat on the deck of the boat, instead of in the cockpit in the hull of the vessel. A typical feature of the sit-on-top frame is that it usually has a wide, stable design, self bailing and are easy to get into and out of. This frame type is great for slow rolling rivers, lakes and coastal waters.

The second frame design is the sit-in style, where the paddler sits in the hull, or cockpit, of the vessel and will have more control. It most often has greater storage for your gear and is more versatile. The sit-in frame style is better suited for fresh water like lakes and rivers.

Kayak Categories

There are basically three main categories for kayaks, sport, touring and recreational. The sporting kayak is great for sport specific activities such as fishing and waterfowl hunting. Sporting kayaks are lightweight, stable and usually come packed with useful features. They provide comfortable seating with a lot of leg room and plenty of storage space for your gear.

The touring kayak offers the most speed and efficiency for all levels of kayaker, from the novice to enthusiast. Touring kayaks have a narrower, longer profile and are easy to paddle in a straight line. They have great stability and versatility and are good for long paddling adventures on open water.

Recreational kayaks are perfect for the beginner and low intensity paddlers. Recreational kayaks are lightweight, very stable and provide a great value for the price. These kayaks are geared for shorter trips on small lakes, ponds, creeks and small lazy rivers. They're great for a relaxing outing with friends and family where you can kick back and enjoy the wild life.

Recreational kayaks can be found in two versions, compact and midsize. The compact recreational kayaks are short, broad and very lightweight, offering great mobility and stability. Compact kayaks are good for beginners as well as children and women who might prefer a lighter load.

Midsize recreational kayaks which are longer and broader which offer greater capacity and paddling efficiency compared to a compact kayak. Storage hatches and gear compartments are features that typically are included with the midsize recreational kayak.

Kayak Features

Each kayak is designed for certain activities, offering different dimensions and shapes relevant to the type of paddling it was made for. The design will emphasize some aspects while sacrificing others. For example, heavier kayaks will offer more storage but will most often be less maneuverable, while a lighter kayak will offer just the opposite. These features, weight, capacity, length, width and cockpit size are listed below.

The weight is how much the boat weighs without any gear or bodies inside. Most kayaks weigh usually between 30 and 70 pounds. Weight may be an important deciding factor if you will have to carry it any distance to the launch site.

The capacity of your kayak is the amount of weight it can reasonably hold without affecting the performance or safety, which includes the weight of any passenger(s) and the weight of any gear.

Length effects the speed of the vessel in the water, longer kayaks will be faster. A longer kayak will also track, or go in a straight line, better. A longer kayak will also offer more cargo space and speed, however are more difficult to handle in tight spaces. What the longer kayak makes up for in speed it gives up in maneuverability, where as a shorter kayak will be more maneuverable, lighter and easier to carry.

The width, or beam, of the vessel is the widest measurement, taken in the middle. A kayak that is wider will usually be slower, usually will offer more stability than one that is narrower. The wider kayak will give more stability for heavier or taller paddlers who would have a higher center of gravity. If you're a beginner, a wider boat would be more suitable, a sportsman would also find this to be true. If you're planning on long trips, a narrower kayak would be the better option, offering more speed and easier paddling.

The size of the cockpit is really a matter of personal preference and is a reflection of the type of kayak. The cockpit on sporting kayaks will range in the size depending on the sport it is geared towards. Touring cockpits are usually smaller and will include built in thigh braces on the rim for better control. Recreation cockpits are usually the least restrictive, roomiest and most versatile.

Puerto Vallarta is the paradise and ideal place for all the beach lovers. Banderas Bay offers 34 miles of coastline and 26 beaches. That's a large number of beaches, and the variety will never bore you. All these beaches are extremely busy on Sundays. In the South Shore, lies Las Animas. Two sandy coastlines stretch out about a mile long. Bucerias is known as the "place of the divers," and if you're lucky you might find giant oysters here. The constant breeze keeps this place cool even in the hot summers. I went SCUBA diving in Mexico (in Banderas Bay Puerto Vallarta, Mexico). We went down like 35-40 feet and it was great.
I saw a ton of fish, some rays, and some little sea plants (they looked like mini white Christmas trees) that stung when you touched them (the sting went away in like 2 seconds). I got to hold a sea urchin as well. The dive master scooped one up and showed us how to hold them.

On 20.01.2004 we left cold Germany with a small group of 8 people who wanted to escape the winter and enjoy a few nice days at Embudu Village (Maldives).

After about 11 hour's flight, we landed at Male. After customs, we were already expected from our tour leader. (As a small note: It is forbidden do bring alcohol to the Maldives. The hand luggage and the suitcases are scanned for).

Directly at the airport our boat was already waiting for us, which should bring us to Embudu Village. The transfer usually took about 45 min. But in recent weeks, there were strong currents so we had to make a detour. The holiday begins already on the boat. You took your shoes off and you don't have to care about your luggage.

At the airport we had our check-in maps of the island and get out, so the check in at reception is very quick - we got the bungalow we reserved. In the evening of our arrival day our tour leader gave us a short briefing about the Maldives and our island. Even the local dive center was there.

Embudu Village is a small and quiet island. The comfort of the island is normal.
The bungalows are built along the water and in the middle of the island are the restaurant, bar and reception. The island has a few water bungalows. We had the opportunity to test one of these water bungalows for 2 days. We couldn't sleep at all. The splashing of the water kept us awake. In future, we would not book one of these bungalows.

The normal bungalows are simple and functionally furnished. They are cleaned twice daily. The bathroom is integrated into the bungalow.

As the island consists totally of sand, we didn't need our shoes at all for 2 weeks.

The hotel offers full board and all inclusive, which can be booked directly at the hotel. Breakfast and dinner are always served in buffet form and is really very good. The selection of food is not excessive.

Swimming and snorkeling is possible everywhere in the small lagoons around the island. You can even circle around the island while snorkeling.

The house reef is about 3 / 4 destroyed. There is a corner where the old and intact reef is still present, but at this corner there are usually strong currents. The snorkeling is worth again, because the fish has not changed. We had several baby sharks, manta rays, turtles, rays, etc.

The diving base is located near the water bungalows. We have decided to take the boat twice a day. The base line, the instructor and the crew of the boats were very competent and friendly.
